Jeanette's official cause of death was "probable suicide" from the ingestion of ammonia. Her husband Bert said he believed she had swallowed the ammonia accidentally. She had been taking medication for stomach problems and may have grabbed the wrong bottle. However Jeanette's family has always believed that she was murdered. She was cremated and her ashes are buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, California. Her crypt is located in the Great Mausoleum. When her younger sister Myrtle passed away in 1957 she was buried there too.
